This book is the first part, Genesis 1--11, of a three volume commentary on the 1st Testament book of Genesis, by the famous University of Heidelberg Old Testament scholar, Claus Westermann (b.d-- ).
John J Scullion in his Translator's Preface to the English edition of 1984, noted that Westermann had been engaged some "twenty-five years" on the whole work.
