His conflict with an imperious government, adventurous political spectacles, maudlin dramatics and heroic theatre vividly strips his blindness to bureautic control and awakens an enlightenment of monumental proportions. His suffering leads him to the vision of Jesus and acceptance of Him. At last, Ben-Hur must challenge Massala's domination in a chariot race.
