Medina, and Vargas Ugarte neither of whom saw this piece but took their description from Leclerc, err in stating that this piece was published in 1691. Vargas Ugarte also suggests that Medina might be wrong in attributing it to the Duque de la Palata's confessor. Apparently neither Medina nor Vargas Ugarte saw a copy of "Gemino luminari Toleto" as a separate. Vargas Ugarte's descrition is truncated, beginning with "raculo, primaevo," the printer apparently having dropped the first line. The real question therefore is not when the "Gemino luminari Toleto" was printed or by whom it was authored but whether it was originally intended to be issued separately. Be that as it may, it appeared as a separate and as part of the preliminaries of the 1685 the Ordenanzas del Perú. It also appears in the 1752 reprint of the Ordenanzas del Perú.
