Of the 261,371,483 tons of coal that have been mined in Kansas between 1869 and the close of 1949, all but approximately 310,184 tons were produced from Pennsylvanian strata. The purpose of this report is to put on record the mining of Permian coal in Kansas, to present data on its production and reserves, both proved and potential, and to direct attention to the various stratigraphic horizons where coal occurs in Kansas Permian rocks.
