The compiler was one of the founders and secretary of the Academia dos Seletos. This collective work was published in prose and verse by its members and associates in celebration of the appointment of Gomes Freire de Andrade as head of the Portuguese Commission to establish the frontier line with Spain in the South of Brazil.
