Engraved t.p. with architectural surround that incorporates at head the arms of Stefan Batory, King of Poland, to whom the work is dedicated. Batory's full-page arms appear on A1r. Engraved ports. of the emperors from Julius Caesar to Rudolf II appear on rectos starting with A2, with biographical text on facing versos. The ports. are numbered 1-157, but some bear two consecutive numbers (L8, N2, N3, O5, P1, P2). These generally depict two subjects, but that on P1 depicts three and that on P2 just one. Accolto's woodcut device at colophon. Type-ornament head and tail pieces, a few initials.
Signatures: p8s A-Tp8s (5-6 blank).

Binding: later mottled sheepskin. Spine tooled in gilt, title on label: ROMAN / IMPERA. Edges of boards tooled in gilt. Page edges sprinkled red and blue. Red silk place marker.
Owner's inscription on front free endpaper recto (?Jossiez); later stamp at foot: A. Choiset. Several inscriptions on t.p. now scratched out, one of them "Guebuin," repeated in right margin of 2r. "Ex libris Huet" on 2r. Inscription below colophon, now obliterated. Modern stamps of Jan Borms on back free endpaper recto.
