For the first time the colorful sagas of the lives, fortunes, triumphs and tragedies of all of the famous Polish horse breeders have been explored and related in depth. This comprehensive account was derived from a compendium of hard-to-find early articles and manuscripts, most of which have never before been translated into English.
Written in close collaboration with Prince Sanguszko, Count Peter Potocki, Countess Anna Brinicka and Countess Marie Rey, the story traces their families' history from the 13th century, right up to the present day. Included within its pages are lengthy extracts from the unpublished autobiography of Count Roman Potocki, the eldest son of Skowronek's breeder. Each of its 13 chapters is embellished with scores of rare and never before published illustrations (including 22 color plates and 160 black and white photographs) that were derived from the family albums and archives of the principle human protagonists.
