The Russian mediaeval tale recounts the capture of Prince Igor by Turko-Mongol forces after a heated battle. The Russian poem is compared with the Scandinavian Sagas, the Norman Song of Roland, the Byzantine Digenis Akritas and the Turkic mediaeval poem Dede Korkut, comparison which places the Russian poem squarely in the Eurasian Mediaeval Koine that the author has constructed from Ireland to Northern China.
