KIRKUS REVIEW

Another action packed, tightly woven mystery adventure by the author better known as Hammond Innes kept us on tenterhooks all during its danger-riddled journey from England to the shores of Italy. For Stephen Garnet's father, a brilliant electrical engineer, has died of an accident that followed on the theft of a valuable invention- a direction finder for planes and ships. Young Steve and Alan, his father's former co-worker, know that Ferney, an Italian and also a former partner, has stolen the machine and so they hot foot it, by yacht, to the Mediterranean and to battle. Led by the ever tightening network of events to the gang of smugglers who want to market the invention themselves, Alan, Steve and the British Navy join forces in a rewarding showdown. Fine mystery writing, this is sustained and satisfying entertainment.
