Work Description
The book contains some basic understanding on the green architecture knowledge. It describes some problem of the current development of the built environment in the developing countries like Indonesia. People in this country, including its leaders tend to know little about green development. They are often talking and promoting the green issue, but they don't actually do and act at the same way. The government helped by the architects and town planner built cities without adequate pedestrian footpaths, with no bicycle ways, no good public transport, thus, encouraging people to use private cars. All the rich people including the leaders in this country use private cars even to reach short destinations. Roads are full with private cars, creating heavy traffic jams every where in the city. Leaders encourage people to use public transport but they don't use it, even they don't try to provide it as they have power to do it. This book criticize the selfishness of the leaders and the haves in the way they conduct their daily life, which is completely against the green philosophy that is to minimize the use of earth resources. It provides examples of the vernacular societies with their modest life, living in their vernacular dwellings with no electricity and use very simple technology, consuming little amount of earth resources including energy and safe the environment. This book also provides the way the modern society tries to safe the earth by means of creating green environment including green building. Some green standard of measurement tools are now created to minimize the negative impact of the building, particularly in the tropical countries like Indonesia, to the environment. Some new developments in the built environment which are considered to follow the green concept are provided in this book.
