Edition Notes
Transcribes the emperor's speech to the Portuguese troops against the Freemasonry.
In 1824 Andrade was the head of a republican movement in Pernambuco against the monarchic system, called Confederação do Equador. Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, and Ceará were the other states to support the revolution, but the emperor's naval forces led by Taylor were superior, and conquered Recife, the capital, putting an end to the rebellion in November 1824. Defeated, Andrade left for England, returning to Pernambuco in 1831.
