Due to a mental collapse in 1792, Queen Maria entrusted power to her son John (the future John VI), who assumed the regency in 1799.

Two settings of this decree appear. The Rio de Janeiro issue has last four words on p. [1] reading: "Fui já servido na" with catchword "Ci-"
