New York artist Trong Gia Nguyen's NEO-THEO is an emblematically expressive installation in which the unspoken gestalt of our political framework surrounds the viewer in a bird-like swarm of saluting images. Unquestioning acceptance of authority and fatally simplified thinking are de jour, the one-sided gestures ghostly in the white noise of a supposedly neutral room. Left and right cancel each other and form two wings of one bondage, alternativeless, binary totalitary.

Humanitarians not Heroes - Magic Square Puzzle Cube, 1976 (2005)

Accompanying the main exhibition, we are pleased to present a toy to relax: the Magic Square Puzzle Cube by Humanitarians Not Heroes. The HNH Magic Square Puzzle Cube is a dizzying game of mathematics, and not for the faint of heart. In Dürer's time, magic squares were considered charms against the plague.

Enlightened Symbols is a hand silk screen print by David Askevold from 1999 - a Kalachakra Mandala with North American industrial hazard and safety signs.

My Recall of an Imprint of a Hypothetical Jungle is one of the first examples of Story Art from 1973. In this early video by seminal artist David Askevold, bits of conversation from homecoming GI's are processed in a rumination that hints at the reality behind the Dominant Narrative in which we live.

In NEO-THEO schafft New Yorker Künstler Trong Gia Nguyen eine emblematisch aussagekräftige Installation in der die unausgesprochene Gestalt unserer politischen Rahmenbedingungen den Betrachter wie ein Vogelschwarm von salutierenden Bildern umgibt. Autoritätsgläubigkeit und ein fatal vereinfachtes Denken sind Programm, gespenstisch schweben die einseitigen Gesten in dem weißen Rauschen eines vermeintlich neutralen Raums. Links und rechts heben sich gegenseitig auf und bilden zwei Flügel einer Hörigkeit, alternativlos, binär totalitär.

Zur Hauptausstellung bieten wir als Spielzeug zum entspannen den Magic Square Zauberwürfel von Humanitarians Not Heroes an. Der HNH Zauberwürfel ist ein schwindelerregendes Mathematikspiel, und nicht für leicht entmutigte zu empfehlen. Zu Dürers Zeit wurden Zauberwürfel als Glücksbringer gegen die Pest betrachtet.

My Recall of an Imprint of a Hypothetical Jungle ist eines der ersten Versuche mit Story Art von 1973. In diesem frühen Video von David Askevold werden Gesprächsfetzen von aus Vietnam heimkehrenden GIs verarbeitet um die Wirklichkeit hinter der Dominant Narrative - der kollektiven Erzählstruktur in der wir leben - rhetorisch zu ertasten.
