The bulk of the work, including the description of Peru and its cities and the scientific observations, is a compilation from various authors, made, not by the translator, but "by another hand." Cf. Pref., p. xiii.
"A true and particular relation of the dreadful ruin in which Lima (otherwise called la Ciudad de los Reyes) capital of the kingdom of Peru, was involved" (p. 131-199) is a translation by Henry Johnson of the "Individual, y verdadera relacion de la extrema ruyna que padeció la Ciudad de los Reyes Lima", first published at Lima in 1746. Cf. NUC pre-1956, NT 0355678.
