These are letters sent and received by parents of author Marina Kosteņecka (born 1945, Riga; Russian spelling Kostenetskaya) during 1945-1955, when Marina's father (a lawyer, her mother was a pianist) worked in the coal mines in Vorkuta Gulag (in then Komi Republic, Russia).
