Reproduction of a suite of 60 drawings, of which 48 were used to illustrate a new edition of the Richmond Lattimore translation of the Iliad published by the University of Chicago Press.
"150 copies of drawings for the Iliad have been published by Delphic Arts of New York City. The paper throughout is Fabriano. The drawings have been reproduced by the Meriden Gravure Company, the text matter printed at the Gehenna Press. The quotations are used with the permission of the University of Chicago Press who hold the copyright for Lattimore's translation of the Iliad"--Colophon.
"The edition has been arranged as follows: Copies number one through ninety are accompanied by three original etchings by Leonard Baskin. Copies numbered I-LX have an extra suite of the etchings printed on Japan Nacre and are accompanied by an original drawing. The work completed in October MCMLXII"--Colophon.
Issued in portfolios made by Harcourt Bindery: copies 1-60 in beige linen with morocco labels on spine and front cover, lettered in gold with leather ties; copies I-LX in half oasis niger morocco.
LC has copy number 45, signed by Leonard Baskin, in linen portfolio. 1 prospectus and 1 exhibition catalog (Leonard Baskin, drawings for the Iliad, by Marvin S. Sadik) laid in.
