Entrepreneur Hilda Reynolds Krause was born in a lumber camp in West Virginia, opened a highly successful café at the Greyhound bus depot in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and eventually went on to invest in the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, one of the first to be built on the famous strip. She moved to Havana, Cuba and, with her husband, managed the Casino de Capri before being expelled from the country. Back in Las Vegas, she became one of the founders of Caesar's Palace, but was assassinated in her home on January 14th, 1974.
