Our true nature is to be happy. Happiness promotes an inner sense of peace and tranquility. It facilitates a knowing that everything is the way it should be. And happiness is not only an emotion, but a way of life. I believe happiness is at the top of everyone’s list when it comes to emotions they want to experience. Although our choices regarding how we live are infinite, sometimes, the decisions we make can be distracting and may lead us astray—these are the choices that can make the state of happiness difficult to maintain.
...
Remember when you were a child. Shy, embarrassing, angry and shameful moments seemed to linger only briefly before resolving and then, magically soon were forgotten. One difference between childhood and adulthood is the lingering process of emotions. As adults we tend to wallow in toxic emotions, making it more difficult to find a way back to the desired states of peace and happiness. As children this transitional state is fairly short. As adults it can linger for days, weeks, months and even years. It’s because adults have well-developed egos.
Egotistic actions in adults feed combativeness and the need for revenge. These thoughts and actions severely damage our innate potential to forgive and show compassion. Thus, when we are counseled to be more child-like—as Deepak Chopra taught me—this is a truly valuable lesson.

Confucius says, “There is no one who does not eat or drink. But there are few who really know flavor.” This book teaches you how to truly taste life, be it bitter or sweet. It teaches you how to feel your emotions (both negative and positive), how to gain wisdom from these emotions, and how, in turn, to live a more authentic life.
