Holograph, signed.
Deborah Weston tells about the dedication of Mr. Holme's new church. Dr. [Joel?] Hawes, who preached the dedication sermon, though he did not mention abolition in it, has given people the impression of being a strong abolitionist. Deborah tells about the danger, during the service, from the structural defect of the building and describes the pounding heard when props were installed to reinforce the iron pillars. She describes at length her varying success "petitioning" and the reaction of those petitioned. Deborah lost a pearl pin in the course of the "petitioning" tour. She describes a visit with "Aunt Sally," who offered her an apple pie "made of free sugar on purpose for me." Deborah longs for a visit from Anne, but she is not to come "if it is thought imprudent."
On page one, written above Deborah Weston's letter, is this note from Abby Osgood: "Dear Anne, I wish you a happy new year."
