Edition Notes

Holograph.

Deborah Weston writes this letter tonight instead of writing in her journal. She enumerates the people she's seen. Thomas Greene talked to her about "the Lyceum difficulty." She gives details of this affair, which involved the refusal to sell tickets to black people. She tells of a successful meeting and names the people who gave money. They worked hard for the fair all Sunday afternoon. Deborah is glad to hear of William A. White's engagement, as "it will take him out of E.G.L.'s [E. G. Loring] hand & put him into Mrs. Follen's more."

The second sheet bears the address: Miss Emma Forbes Weston, 53 Federal Street, Boston, Mass. And a brief note by Deborah Weston. She mentions a steamship and that things will come on Tuesday. They may have to "walk out in the face of N B & it will be well to have a good bonnet on."
