Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Amos Farnsworth expresses perplexity at the idea of a contribution to sustain Jushua Leavitt in Washington this winter; he wonders if "our contributing friends think the time as come for a decree of general amnesty." The Old Organization has lost much ground by not having anyone in Washington; Amos Farnsworth knows of no better man for the purpose than David Lee Child. Aware of the Liberator's decreasing subscription list, Farnsworth thinks that what agents can spare "must be put immediately into the field" to raise money for the present emergency. John A. Collins, "having married a wife, cannot go." Farnsworth has a troublesome anti-slavery lawsuit on his hands and is already liable for $1000. There was a notice in the Courier of an anti-slavery convention to be held in Concord, Mass., on Forefathers' Day. Farnsworth offers to send two barrels of apples for Caroline Weston's refreshment table at the fair.
