Edition Notes

Holograph.

Deborah Weston describes a trip from New Bedford to Boston by train during a snowstorm. Abby Osgood and William Coffin are bringing signed petitions to Boston. Deborah writes: "Mr. Morrison is very busy here getting up a society to be called 'the benevolent society.' It is for the amelioration of the condition of poor." Deborah will attend a party at George S. Baker's [house], and wants a certain dress to wear to the party. She thinks the American Anti-Slavery Society must be trying to make peace, judging from the fact that they quoted Mrs. Maria W. Chapman in the Emancipator. She heard a rumor that Mrs. Eliza Lee Cabot Follen was in an insane hospital.
