R. Warren Weston tells about a picture of Mr. (Joshua) Bates in a "most beautiful frame" and the dedication in bright gilt that reads "Mr. Weston from Mr. Bates." R. Warren Weston calls Anne Warren Weston's attention to the cavalry raid through Mississippi by Colonel Grierson, who "came into Baton Rouge with 500 negroes all mounted on good horses, & he scattered the President's proc[lamatio]n right and left." R. Warren Weston also reports on the health of his children.
