Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Joseph Ricketson thinks of Caroline Weston almost every hour of the day. Joseph Ricketson's health is much improved, and he has been working "thundering hard" on the affairs of the Lecture Association. Using the form of a trope, he compares the Association to a ship, tells of its surprising success and the predicament of the rival Lyceum. "The orthodox call us Infidels & hypocrits." The Rev. Mr. John Weiss "preached a Red Hot abolition sermon last Sunday morning which gave universal satisfaction." He confides to Caroline Weston that Mr. Weiss will probably be appointed. Joseph Ricketson is going to the Unitarian Convention in Salem.
