Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
Caroline Weston writes about the experiences of Warren Weston in England. He arrived on the Great Western. She relates Warren's conversations with Joshua Bates pertaining to family affairs. When Mr. Bates "did not see how we lived on $500 a year," Warren failed to tell him that "the rest of the means was raised by ourselves." Mr. Bates has transferred a ship to Warren at a low price to be paid in installments,--"the same thing as a gift." Mr. Bates did not mention Warren's engagement directly, but talked of the folly of too early marriages.
There are two layers of writing, lengthwise and crosswise, throughout this letter.
