Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

This letter is signed by both William Lloyd Garrison and Ellis Gray Loring. The text is entirely in the hand of William Lloyd Garrison.

William Lloyd Garrison and Ellis Gray Loring want John Anderson Collins to return home to resume in the general agency for the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. All agency operations were suspended during Collins's absence; hence, friends of the Society were less disposed to contribute. This letter quotes the resolution passed at a special meeting of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society requesting the return of John Anderson Collins. They send Collins their deepest sympathies for the assaults made on his character and mission.
