Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Child praises the violinist, Ole Bull. Criticizes a French clique who underrated him. Asks Dwight to write an article on Ole Bull for the Democratic Review.

For reference to this letter and others connected with it, see pages 75-82, in George Willis Cooke's book, John Sullivan Dwight : brook-farmer, editor, and critic of music : a biography, (1898).

Above the salutation is the note by Child: Please not read this letter to strangers. I have written with too much abandon for the public eye.
