Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

While in Bath, Maine, Harriet W. Hayden read a letter from Maria Weston Chapman to Mrs. Waldren asking her to write for the Liberty Bell and "to extend the request to the other friends of the slave in that vicinity." Harriet W. Hayden is therefore sending an article for publication, which Maria W. Chapman may use or pass on to William Lloyd Garrison. Harriet W. Hayden has seen Mrs. Lydia Maria Child and Mr. & Mrs. (Isaac T.) Hopper. Harriet W. Hayden says about Mr. Isaac T. Hopper: "What a very agreeable, interesting old gentleman Friend Hopper is!" She comments on his vigor at age 73.

The article by Harriet W. Hayden, that was mentioned in this manuscript, was not printed in the Liberty Bell for 1844.
