William Lloyd Garrison introduces the bearer of this letter, John Morgan, who worked as a printer for the Liberator years ago. Morgan more recently worked for a newspaper in Thomaston, Maine, that failed. Morgan wants to get a free passage to New York, where he will obtain a situation upon his arrival.
