Copy of letter. On page two, there is a note regarding the provenance of this manuscript: "Respectfully, Yours, Joseph R. Carter: Born, Phila[delphia], Pa., Oct. 11, 1847. Conductor P.P.C. Co. ...The original letter is framed & can be seen in my library at my home -- no. 1816 Vineyard St., near Ridge Ave., Philad[elphi]a, Pa."

William Lloyd Garrison replies to a request for an autograph. He also includes the lines of a poem he wrote on the walls of his cell in the Leverett Street jail in Boston on Oct. 21, 1835.
