Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

John F. Emerson writes: "The whole affair has appeared(?) somewhat mysterious to me from the beginning." When Miss Deborah Weston left New Bedford, John F. Emerson understood that she would return and he made no move towards getting another teacher. The matter has occasioned him much uneasiness, but he is willing to ascribe it to a misunderstanding. He says: "The young ladies have been incessant in their enquiries after you." Nothing has been determined about the high school. John F. Emerson continues: "You say that you are willing to return for a whole quarter. I will wait 'till the above question is decided and will communicate with you immediately. If I continue in my own school, the services of no other lady would be as valuable to me as yours and it will give a great deal of satisfaction to have you return. ..."
