Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

In this letter, Anne Knight mentions a contribution from Chelmsford,[England], to the anti-slavery fair, for which an acknowledgement is desired in the Liberty Bell. She refers to the Gospel of Matthew 7:12, as applying to the downtrodden half of humanity and envisages a better world. Anne Knight asks for a book lately issued on the subject of women, which Elizabeth Pease told her about. She also asks for a copy of Maria Weston Chapman's last report and asks if she has a copy of The Martyr, by Harriet Martineau. Anne Knight refers to the annexation of Texas with horror.
