William Lloyd Garrison thanks Fanny Garrison Villard for presents in advance of their arrival. William L. Garrison writes: "Yesterday was our annual State Festival---Thanksgiving." He describes his Thanksgiving dinner. They had no guests. Garrison comments that "the turkey alone cost five dollars!" He heard Dr. George Putnam preach, lauding "Massachusetts as the focal point of the world's civilization---to the extent of the her territory, 'the glory of all lands,' on the score of universal education, thrift, industry, enterprise, all-pervading competences, aggrevated wealth, superior intelligence, active charity, world-wide philanthropy, enlightened piety, her devoton to the cause of liberty, her reformatory tendencies and her lofty patriotism." Francis Jackson Garrison lacks vitality; his physical development is more important to him than learning German, and he doesn't have to leave Europe until he wants to. Garrison writes: "Congress commences its session on Monday next. There does not appear to be any great curiosity to know what the President will say in his message. He will not be impeached, it is pretty certain, owing to the timidity of the Republicans."
