Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Samuel Joseph May discusses the propriety of printing letters in Maria Weston Chapman's forthcoming book. May believes "it looks badly to see letters that were addressed to me (confidentially) in print." He refers to a letter he received from Charles T. Torrey about the Massachusetts Abolitionist. May prefers that the letters not be printed or to have permission from Torrey.
