Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Richard D. Webb is greatly relieved by a letter from Anne W. Weston; he was troubled by the thought of being a "bother" at an excursion to Westminster Abbey (see letter with Call No. Ms.A.9.2 v.32, p.70). He enjoys a good long talk with Anne, who has "the gift of talking in higher perfection & in a pleasanter way than anyone else I ever [talked] with..." Webb has followed the course of the Garrisons through letters from Fanny (Mrs. Helen Francis Garrison Villard) and Frank (Francis Jackson Garrison), as well as from Elizabeth Nichol(?) "who had their company a week and enjoyed it immensely." Webb thinks of Garrison as "a wonderful concentration of noble qualities." He agrees, however, with Anne that "the jokes in his speeches would be better left out." Webb refers to a wedding of interest to Anne Weston's family. Mary Estlin's whooping cough prevented her from seeing the Garrisons.
