Holograph, signed.
Deborah Weston was very glad to get her silk gown. All are well, except Emma [Weston]. Deborah had a "very uncomfortable day" expecting Benjamin Silliman to lecture and not being able to find out about it until Maria Weston Chapman came to say that the lecture was put off and "it was voted that no ladies should be admitted. Mr. Fletcher thinks it a most shameful thing... Maria is very busy about Mrs. Child," who cannot go on with the book she is writing because the directors of the Athenaeum library "have revoked the permission which they gave her some years ago to take out what books she chose." The price of a share is $100 and "Maria has raised $75 since yesterday morning, so we think she will succeed." Deborah inquires about Lizzy Chapman, and writes "Give my love to her. It seems like heaven without her."
On page four of the letter, there is a brief note to Mrs. Anne Bates Weston from Anne Warren Weston.
