Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
They just received a China tea set that was sent by Henry Villard as a Christmas present for Mrs. Helen Eliza Garrison. William Lloyd Garrison encloses a letter from Francis Jackson Garrison, whose "epistolary facility" he praises. William L. Garrison says that "each weekly letter costs nearly half a dollar." He heard that Wendell Phillips Garrison, J. M. M'Kim, and Charles Follen McKim are going to keep house for themselves. William L. Garrison feels sorry for John Ritchie, whose young wife died. Mrs. Helen Eliza Garrison has improved "owing to the manipulation and magnetism of Miss Andrew and the cheerful company of Miss Wiggin." William L. Garrison's arm is worse. He does not like the tone of The Nation's articles concerning the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson.
