Edition Notes
Clipping (information artifact).
These three letters protesting against compulsory military drills in public schools were printed in the National Journal of Education in an article entitled "Military Drill in Schools." The clipping consists of William Lloyd Garrison's letter (25 Dec. 1878) and letters by John G. Whittier (18 Dec. 1878) and the Rev. A. P. Peabody (26 Dec. 1878) to Nathaniel Topliff Allen. These letters were also "read at the discussion of the Military Drill question before the Mass. Teachers' Association, Dec. 27, 1878."
For a handwritten transcription, with words crossed out, of William Lloyd Garrison's letter to Nathaniel Topliff Allen, Dec. 25, 1878, see Call No. Ms.A.1.1 v.9, p.61A.
