Place of publication and name of printer appears at foot of broadsheet.
Wagner dates this document to 1571 because the Edict of Faith, dated November 4, 1571, established the Inquisition in Mexico.
Valton dates this document to between the end of 1569 and prior to November 4, 1571.
Communication of the papal edict, which is dated at end of text "Dada en Roma, apud sanctum Petrum, ano de la encarnacio[n] del Señor mil y quinientos y sesenta y nueve, en las kal[endas] de abril, y de nuestro pontificado, año quarto", calling for the support of the Inquisition in its crusade against heresy and the necessity of treating the inquisitors with respect. The letter of transmittal following the names of the churchmen who signed the edict, is by Bartholomé de Ledesma and is addressed to the clergy of New Spain. The Inquisition was formally established in Mexico in 1571.
