Plates in the story "Diamonds and toads" are the same as those used in an edition of this story published separately [between 1868 and 1871] in the series "Aunt Louisa's London toy books" by Frederick Warne & Co. See McLean T 0065. Illustrations in this story are by Kate Greenaway. Cf. Engen, Rodney K. Kate Greenaway, 1976.

"Aunt Louisa" was a pseudonym of Laura Valentine, general editor of Warne's publishing house.

Includes wood-engraved decorative head-pieces, tail-pieces and initials.

MASS copy: Bound in purple pebble-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind in the same design as McLean T 0122. Upper cover blocked in gold with decorative title that includes signature: "CB" [i.e. Charles Bayman?]. With binder's ticket: "Bound by W. Bone & Son 76, Fleet St. London E. C.". With bookseller's label: "H. & C. Treacher, Booksellers, Publishers and Stationers. 1, North St. & 44 East St. Brighton".
