The so-called "counterfeit edition," based on the first edition of 1570 with copper-plate copies of the original woodcuts.
Plates used "are the same as those found in the Fowler copy of the Pasinelli ed., 1740-1748, ([Fowler] no. 230)".
This edition was published through the bequest of Joseph Smith (1682-1770), British consul at Venice. Cf. Notes and queries, 10th ser., vol. 4, 1905, p. 383.
Mortimer reports a publication date of 1767 derived from a note of Thomas Hollis in his copy given to Harvard.
