All four volumes are from the collection of Albert Vizentini of Paris under whose direction the opera was first produced at the The a tre de la Gaite in 1875. Volume 1 (1-28 leaves, 54 cm) contains autograph letters to Vizentini, and portraits, programs, and illustrations from Le Monde Illustre and La Vie Parisienne -- Volumes 2 (29-197 leaves, 31 cm) and 3 (1-142 leaves, 31 cm) contain the complete piano-vocal score of Vizentini (Le voyage dans la lune : fe erie en quatre actes / de Vanloo, Leterrier et A. Mortier ; musique de J. Offenbach ; partition chant et piano re duite par L. Roques ; Paris : Chouden Pe re et fils, 1875) with introductory program page with cast at La Gaite and Cha telet (1877), introductions to scenes, and original water color drawings for costumes by Alfred Gre vin -- Volume 4 (142-144 leaves ; 387-570 pages, 31 cm) contains an autograph libretto in ink with corrections added.
The opera premiered on 26 October 1875 at the The a tre de la Gaite . The production was revived at the The a tre du Cha telet, on 31 March 1877.
Original French libretto loosely based on Jules Verne's "De la Terre a la Lune" (1865).
Pages were encapsulated in polyester film and post bound in full cloth by the Northeast Document Conservation Center, August 2002.
