Edition Notes
Title devised by cataloger, based partly on the form of titles used in the later published works.
The numbers 34 and 35 are each repeated once in the contemporary handwritten pagination, without duplication of text.
Leaves written on both sides.
Hand-drawn illustrations, many painted with watercolors.
The first eight pages are slightly wider than the volume and are folded along the fore-edge. The first two pages have a damaged fore-edge that was clumsily repaired, affecting the text on page one.
The first ten plates have later foliation added in pencil; the contemporary plate numbering in ink (as referenced in the text) begins with the eleventh plate, which is numbered as "planche premiere."
Two small ink sketches of cannons have been tipped in with sealing wax on plate 9 (that is, on the eighteenth plate in the volume).
In French.
Tunnels! ; 39088003342490, fold-out plate 16; 1993/08/27 - 1994/05/05; Ellen Wells; Dibner Library Gallery; Ellen Wells, Paul Forman, Jeff Stine; occasional tears, glue stains, good condition.
SCDIRB copy 39088003342490 has bookplate: Burndy Library ... gift of Bern Dibner.
SCDIRB copy has an antique-style gilt-tooled full vellum binding over paper boards; red edges, and braided leather clasps looping over small white (ivory?) balls; one of the balls is wanting.
