Edition Notes

Handwritten copy of letter; not William Lloyd Garrison's handwriting.

William Lloyd Garrison thanks Louisa Gilman Loring for her generous New Year's gift. The Lorings have for years strengthened Garrison in serving the anti-slavery cause. A mighty change has been wrought in the public sentiment. Garrison writes: "I would improve this opportunity to return my grateful acknowledgements to Mr. Loring, for his donation in aid of my late mission to Great Britain---a mission already crowned with remarkable success, and which will constitute an important era in our anti-slavery history."

Merrill, Walter M. Letters of William Lloyd Garrison, v.3, no.189.
