Daniel Henry Chamberlain writes Francis Jackson Garrison informing him that while he has received a great many letters of late, Garrison's is of "a special value". Chamberlain asserts that William Lloyd Garrison is correct in telling Oliver Johnson that he "ought to understand and does underestimate" the disaster in question. Chamberlain expresses his sorrow that they must "fight this battle all over again", but states his thanks that he has been "permitted to act so as to command the approval of those who understand the conflict".
