Joseph Lupton sends William Lloyd Garrison his thanks for Garrison's "kind remembrance" of the Luptons at the holiday season. Lupton states his hope that President Hayes' "pacific policy" will eventually be of benefit to the United States, and predicts that, with the aid of the Democratic party, they "might soon see a more liberal tariff", and a closer cooperation and unity between the "great countries" of the world.
