This is a mail in hint booklet, that was available for the 'Nintendo Entertainment System' {NES} video game "Star Wars. The video game came with a special advertisement flyer JVC-7V-US, which sold official Lucasfilm products, within this advertisement was a description of a early version of this book.

The advertised version had a full color cover, was said to be written by Howard Phillips, mentions having passwords for the game, {which the final game does not actually feature}, and that it was either $7.95, or free if a person bought $50 worth of other merchandise from the flyer.

This finally released version of the book has, a black and white front cover, is staple bound 24 pages, including front and back cover, black and white photographs of actor/characters, 1 b&w screenshot of the Asteroid level, 8 illustrations of creatures and enemies, 2 movie screenshots {1 on each cover}, and b&w diagram type maps of each area of the game.

It is written by James "Purple" {nickname} Hampton, who was also the listed in the video game's instruction booklet as 'Lead Tester". The back cover also lists it as "Star Wars hintbook", while the front cover, page headers, and the advert, version all have the words "Hint Book" separated.
