The Advanced ACE Spelling Dictionary is designed for everyone who needs to check spellings quickly. It takes you directly from speech to spelling. The ACE Index at the front of the book guides you to the list you need, often to the exact page. You then scan down one of four columns, according to the number of syllables in the spoken word. Meanings are given for all words that sound the same (or very similar), but have different meanings, As many as one in four of the single-syllable words in Advanced ACE is a homonym. A distinction is made between core vocabulary (printed in black) and more specialised vocabulary up to degree level, printed in indigo.
