Edition Notes
Attributed to Tomás Antônio Gonzaga by Moraes.
"Nova edição" refers to this first Brazilian imprint of the first part of the first edition printed in Lisbon in 1792.
Part 2 was first printed in Lisbon, 1799, and part 3 was first printed in Lisbon, 1800.

In verse.
According to the Bibliografia da Impressão Régia do Rio de Janeiro, there are several imperfections in printing in this issue of the epic poem: the text on p. 46 has erroneously also been printed on p. 48, affecting 20 lines of text in two stanzas; "lyra", or stanza no. XVII on p. 64-67" has been erroneously numbered as XXIII; the running titles on p. 17, 53, 69, and 85 have been erroneously printed as "De D rceo.", "De Dirceo.", "De Drceo.", and "De Dirceo." respectively; not mentioned is the erroneously printed "De Dirc.e.o." on p. 111 in the John Carter Brown Library copy.
