Edition Notes
Title from caption and first part of text.
Possible date of publication from other documents in this case, namely Medina 422, 424, 425, and 431.
Concerning the case of Joanna de Saavedra de Silva, widow of Juan de Saavedra, chief notary of the viceroy of Peru and brother of the governor of Rio de la Plata, and sister of Alonso Fernández de Córdova. The viceroy Francisco de Toledo insisted that Alvaro Ruiz de Navamuel y de los Rios was the chief notary and in 1579 the Council of the Indies judged otherwise claiming that Saavedra was indeed the legal owner of that title. However the viceroy still insisted that Navamuel be his chief notary. Here Saavedra's widow presses for her legal and economic rights with King Philip II and the Council of Indies in Spain.
